NeoGraft Hair Transplant

Hair transplantation for men with Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

The Battle Against Hair Loss

You look in the mirror. You see that your hairline is receding. Not only that – a closer inspection reveals that skin is showing through your hair at the crown.

Why is this happening and what can be done?

First, you should know that you are not alone. Male pattern baldness, which accounts for 95% of all hair loss in men, is estimated to affect half of all men by the age of 50. Some men experience its onset in their early 20s.

The solution: a hair transplant. Male pattern baldness typically does not affect the back of the head. Using donor hair from that area and transplanting it to the balding or thinning areas can restore your hairline and crown to a full head of natural hair – all in a single, one-day procedure.

At Nashville Hair Doctor®, we know what’s important to you. You are looking for good hair growth results, but you want to be discreet. You don’t want signs of any procedure to be visible, and you can’t miss much work while you’re recovering. And if you’re honest, you would much prefer a virtually pain- and hassle-free procedure.

A NeoGraft hair transplant does all those things, and more.

How NeoGraft Works: A Look at FUE Hair Transplantation

NeoGraft® is a hair transplant method based on Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). It uses pneumatic pressure to extract individual “grafts” of hair from the “donor” area. A graft typically contains several hair follicles, and the donor area is the part of the scalp at the back of the head where the follicles are resistant to hair loss caused by Male Pattern Baldness. Once the hair grafts are extracted, they are artfully reimplanted in the balding areas of the scalp with a technique akin to a pinprick.

Extracting hair in the smallest possible increments or “follicular units” avoids the downsides of the traditional “strip method,” where a strip of the patient’s scalp is surgically removed and then dissected. NeoGraft® does not require a scalpel. It utilizes an automated handpiece that creates little to no discomfort for patients during their procedure.

What to Expect During Your Hair Transplant Procedure

Each hair transplant is different, but you can get a good idea of what it’s like by listening to former patients. David Bernard is a Nashville Hair Doctor patient who was interviewed on the Nashville Today Show six months after his procedure.

During an FUE hair transplant procedure, a nurse first numbs the scalp. Some patients opt fo the PRO-NOX pain management system for additional comfort. The doctor or technician then identifies the donor hair follicles best suited for transplantation and uses the NeoGraft device to extract individual hair grafts, then sorts and stores them in a saline or Hypothermosol solution. In the next step, these grafts are carefully implanted into the previously marked recipient sites, making sure proper angle and orientation are preserved for an aesthetically pleasing result.

After the procedure, your scalp will be covered in hundreds of small red dots marking both the extraction and recipient sites. It will take 7-10 days for these to scab over and fall off. Most patients resume their regular activities within 1-2 days but may opt to stay out of the public eye until the scabs are gone.

David recalls his one-day procedure as easy and pain-free, being able to watch TV most of the time. His advice:

“It’s very important to follow all the post-op instructions to get good results.”

To see what you might expect during your recovery, take a look at Memphis Hair Doctor patient John, who had a 2,500 graft hair transplant. You will note that the biggest change in John’s progress has occurred between months 3 and 6. This is very normal, as the growth cycles really kick in between months 3 and 4. Like John, many patients achieve excellent results by month 6, with additional thickness expected to develop until 12-14 months.

John wanted density focused on the hairline, so the crown appears lighter than it could have been. He is very happy with his results at 6 months, as was his barber.

“He said that if he didn’t know me and I walked into his shop today that he would never guess that I had had a transplant.”

The Advantages of NeoGraft Hair Restoration

If you want to regrow your own natural hair with many options of how to wear it, a NeoGraft hair transplant is an ideal solution. Specifically, here are the advantages of NeoGraft vs other hair transplant methods:

NATURAL-LOOKING RESULTS: Your newly implanted hair follicles will follow the natural hair growth cycle, allowing you to wear your preferred hairstyle, short or long. A hair transplant requires patience but your results will continue to improve over time, with full realization at 12-14 months post-procedure.

MINIMAL DOWNTIME: The recovery from a NeoGraft® hair transplant is very swift. Most patients are able to return to their regular activities the next day but may opt to stay at home until all visible signs of the procedure have faded (about 7-10 days).

NO LINEAR SCAR: The tiny incisions made by the NeoGraft® device to extract and insert follicles require no stitches or staples and heal without any visible scarring. This is a major advantage over the strip method of hair transplantation, which results in a linear scar at the back of the head.

HIGH PATIENT SATISFACTION: FUE hair restoration can be performed on all hair types – fine, coarse, Asian, African-American. It also does not require the entire head to be shaved. Due to its natural-looking results and easy recovery, NeoGraft® consistently receives one of the highest “worth it” ratings on Realself.com

Frequently Asked Questions

An ideal candidate for a hair transplant is in relatively good health with a healthy supply of hair in the donor area (typically the back of the scalp). This is the area generally not affected by male pattern baldness (except in rare cases). In addition, you are a good candidate for NeoGraft if you want to wear your hair short or would like to camouflage any scars from previous linear harvests. The best way to find out if you’re a good candidate for a hair transplant is to request a free quote.
