Nashville is best known as the home of country music. Everywhere you step, you’ll find a tribute to its rich music history. We have world-famous attractions like the venerable Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman Auditorium, and the Johnny Cash museum. On any night, you might come across the next great hit being played in one of Broadway’s famous honky tonks. And in recent years, Nashville has also earned a name for its gourmet restaurant scene that offers so much more than just hot chicken. But we bet you didn’t know what else Nashville has become a hot destination for: Affordable hair restoration.

It’s true. We call ourselves the Nashville Hair Doctor, but our reputation as the destination for affordable hair transplants reaches far beyond Tennessee. In the last few months alone, we have had clients from as far away as New York, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Hair Transplants in Nashville for Half the Price of Chicago or New York

There is a reason for this. When you look at our hair transplant pricing chart, you will see that the cost of a hair transplant at the Nashville Hair Doctor is well below the national average.

Let’s say your hair loss is moderate and you need a hair restoration of 1,000 grafts. At an average price of $3,950* at the Nashville Hair Doctor, this means you save over $3,000 compared to the average cost of a comparable NeoGraft hair transplant in the United States.  If you need a more substantial hair transplant of 2,000 grafts, your savings could be well over $6,000. And if you travel to Nashville from New York City or Chicago for your hair restoration, your savings might well top $10,000. That’s because hair restoration in these major cities is well above the national average.

That’s a lot of money left over, even if you go all out and make Nashville your destination for more than hair restoration. Which you totally should, because Nashville is an awesome city!

What To Do in Nashville

Here are just a few of the places and experiences you shouldn’t miss when you visit the Music City:

Music Row

Take a stroll down Broadway at night. It’s a great way to hear and see the many live bands that perform on Music Row day in and day out. Many new artists have made their debut here. Chances are, a great unknown talent is in the making this very moment. While you stroll down the street, make sure you duck into one of the stores selling cowboy boots. These make great presents, but our guess is you will want to get some for yourself too!

If you are up for a little walk, cross the bridge over the Cumberland toward Titans Stadium. The view of the skyline from the other side is well worth the effort, especially at nighttime. There are also excellent walking tours on offer that explore some of Nashville’s fascinating history. You’ll learn about the city’s humble beginnings as Fort Nashborough, about its role in the Civil Rights movement, and how it became Music City.

Broadway is the heart of Music Row

For more history, you might tour the Belmont Mansion, today a part of Belmont University. You’ll learn all about a fascinating woman named Adelicia Acklen who went through three husbands and in many ways was ahead of her time. For much of the Civil War, Nashville was occupied by Union forces. But just to the South, the two armies clashed at the Battle of Franklin, less than 30 minutes outside of Nashville. You can travel back in time by touring Carnton Plantation or Carter House. While there, take a stroll on its picturesque Main Street and do a little window shopping or stop at the Frothy Monkey for an afternoon coffee.

As an alternative to all that walking, you might catch a sightseeing tour with Old Town Trolley, letting you hop on and off all day long. Or perhaps you can score a coveted spot on a pedal tavern, a perennial tourist favorite. Be forewarned – you might have to beat out the thousands of bachelorette party-goers who have also made Nashville their preferred destination in recent years.

Athens of the South

But it’s not all about drinking and partying. Did you know that Nashville once billed itself as the Athens of the South? In the 1850s, it took pride in its many educational institutions, including the first public school system in a Southern city. In this image, a full-scale replica of the Parthenon was built in 1897 for the Centennial Exposition. It was meant to be temporary, but was thankfully preserved and today houses and art museum.

If you are a music buff, dinner reservations at the Bluebird Cafe are a must. It’s a tiny hole in the wall that has made a name for itself as the venue for songwriters to perform their craft – both new and experienced ones. If you’re just hungry and don’t care about the music, there are many excellent restaurants to choose from. The 12 South neighborhood is a good place to start. One of our favorite places is the rooftop bar at Virago’s for excellent Asian fusion and another panoramic view of the Nashville skyline.

If you’ve been considering a hair transplant, it’s probably because you looked in the mirror one morning and saw scalp where there should be hair. The shock of an unexpectedly receding hairline or bald spot can be quite visceral. Nevertheless, you most likely didn’t book a consultation with a hair doctor or clinic right away. Of all the questions you may have about hair restoration, the most pressing one might be: Is now the right time to have a hair transplant?

It’s not an easy question to answer, because everyone is different. There is no ideal age at which you should get a hair transplant, just like there is no ideal age for a tummy tuck or laser hair removal. On the one hand, many patients, once they’ve had a hair transplant and have seen how relatively easy it is, wish they had done it sooner. But on the other hand, you may not want to jump the gun and start too soon.

Here are some broad guidelines for how to choose when to have a hair transplant:

Your Age

Male pattern baldness, which affects up to two thirds of American men by the age of 35, can start showing as early as age 18. However, we don’t advise you have a hair transplant under the age of 25, even if you’re experiencing early hair loss. From 18 -29 your hairline is still forming. What you may think of as a receding hairline may simply be what’s called a mature hairline, which is not quite the same thing as a receding hairline.

By age 35, any hair loss you may experience has typically stabilized. This doesn’t mean you can’t have a hair transplant earlier. But it’s a good idea to wait until any rapid hair loss eases off so that your hair doctor or hair restoration technician can get a good idea of your pattern of hair loss. A hair transplant relies on using donor hair from the back of your head. If you opt for a hair transplant too early, you may distribute the donor hair too heavily in one area, leaving too little for late when it’s needed in another area. This also has to do with the natural density of your hair. In short, you want to plan out carefully where to distribute your hair so as to achieve the best overall effect.

Your Expectations

As mentioned above, your donor hair is in somewhat limited supply. The good news is that the donor hair comes from an area that isn’t prone to hair loss. This means you don’t have to worry that you’ll have a hair transplant now, only for that same hair to later fall out. But what you do have to consider is where to put you donor hair to the best use.

The question you should ask yourself is this: If you only have enough donor hair to fit one area and not several, which area would you be most happy with? Going in with the right expectation is very important for a good outcome of hair restoration.

The Cost

We’re not going to lie and say hair transplants are cheap. They’re not. They require a fairly large financial investment, so the question of when you should have one may very well hinge on the price. Will you be able to afford a hair transplant or do you need more time to save up for one? What type of interest-free payment plans are being offered? Do certain hair transplant providers offer seasonal discounts only applicable at a certain time of year?

When doing your research into hair transplants, it’s a good idea to not just compare prices at different providers, but also their financing plans and special offers. Some clinics also offer travel packages for out-of-town patients. This may well save you money if you come from an area of the country with high hair transplant prices.

Recovery Time

While there are no real limitations on what time of year you can have hair transplant surgery, there are several considerations you should take into account.

How long it takes for a hair transplant to heal varies from procedure to procedure. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is so popular because it requires practically no healing time. There is no surgical incision and therefore no scar, compared to other methods like the “strip method.”

However, even with FUE you are advised to plan for 7-14 days of recovery time. Your head will be covered with tiny red dots from where the hair follicles were extracted and re-inserted, and there may be a small amount of swelling. While you should feel fit enough to go back to work after just 1-2 days post-op, most of our patients choose to take a week or two off to allow their hair to start growing in again, and the tiny punctures to scab over and fall off.

Time of Year

For hair transplant patients at the Nashville Hair Doctor, the Christmas break tends to be the most popular time of year. Some companies tend to shut down their offices altogether over Christmas, in which case you wouldn’t even have to take any time off work.

Also, there are a few rules to observe after hair transplant surgery. While you can go back to most of your regular activities within just days after your procedure, swimming is not advised for a few weeks, and direct sunlight should be avoided. This doesn’t mean you can’t go on a beach vacation, as long as you invest in a hat. But it’s also a great time to explore, say, a new city or visit the mountains. Or perhaps you’d like to stay close to home and make a project of sampling the local restaurant scene.

No matter what time of year you choose for your hair restoration procedure, you’ll need to plan ahead to get it scheduled for your calendar. The holiday season is always a good time to take a look at the coming year and schedule the big events you hope to achieve.

Having a hair transplant to reverse hair loss is a wonderful thing, but it is also a fairly big decision. Most likely you’ve been considering hair restoration for a while but are still undecided. At the Nashville Hair Doctor, we want to help you make the most informed decision possible. Below we have compiled a list of commonly asked questions about hair transplants that will help further educate you.

1. How much does a hair transplant cost?

When it comes to hair transplants, there is a wide range of prices. What you pay depends on the provider, the type of procedure, the number of hair grafts you’re getting, and the area of the country you live in. The coasts and big cities, such as the New York/Los Angeles/Chicago areas, tend to be much more expensive than Middle America. At the Nashville Hair Doctor, we are happy to offer some of the best prices in the country based on our location in Middle Tennessee. Our pricing for NeoGraft hair restoration is well below the national average. For instance, we offer savings of over $6,000 on a 2,000 graft NeoGraft hair transplant. See our pricing chart for more information. In addition, we offer travel packages for out of town patients.

2. Do hair transplants leave scars?

This is where the type of hair transplant you’re getting makes a difference. So-called FUT hair transplants leave a linear scar at the back of the head from where the transplanted hair is extracted in a strip of hair. FUE hair transplants, like the ones using the NeoGraft technology, use hair follicles that are extracted individually. This method does not result in scarring and is therefore preferred by patients who want to have the option to wear their hair short afterwards without the need to cover up. There are other differences between FUT and FUE hair transplants, but scarring is the most important one to know about.

3. Does getting a hair transplant hurt?

As with any surgical procedure, there is an element of discomfort while you undergo hair restoration, but this is kept to a minimum with a procedure like NeoGraft. Your surgeon or technician is likely to use a mild anesthetic to eliminate any such discomfort. The only real discomfort might be that hair transplants take time. Depending on the number of grafts, you may need an entire morning or afternoon, or even up to a day, to have all your grafts extracted and implanted. If you think of it as a work of art to complete, this will make sense to you. Most patients find it easy to pass the time by watching TV or a movie, or even take a nap! In the days afterwards, you might experience a sense of tightness and some swelling, but this shouldn’t be painful. Read our tips to prevent swelling after a hair transplant for more information.

4. Does a hair transplant use existing hair or grow new hair?

A hair transplant uses your own existing hair follicles to promote growth in a new area. Your surgeon will use hair from the back of your head and transplant it to the balding areas, typically on the crown of your head. For men, the hair at the back of the head is not prone to balding, and this is why hair transplants work so well. Your “new” hair will resist hair loss after transplantation because it uses the follicles, i.e. roots, from the non-balding areas. You won’t technically grow any “new” hair since the donor area will be somewhat thinned out, but a masterful technician does this in a way that will be unnoticeable. For all intents and purposes it will look like you’ve grown new hair.

5. When will the new hair begin to grow?

It is important to know that all hair transplants take time. This makes sense – hair takes time to grow, and no one can speed that up. You should also know that right after a hair transplant, it is normal to actually lose hair initially. This is nothing to worry about, it’s part of the natural hair growth cycle. The new roots will still be there, and that’s what’s important. Over time, new hair will grow from these roots. Most patients will see a noticeable difference around 3 months after the transplant. It may take 9 months to a year before you can see the full effects.

6. What is the downtime afterwards and when can I return to work?

Most of our patients need about a week after a hair transplant. This doesn’t mean you’ll be laid up in bed, on the contrary. The beauty of FUE hair transplants such as NeoGraft is that they are so minimally-invasive that you’ll be up and about the very next day. Just make sure you use some precautions in the days following the transplant, like sleeping in a recliner instead of a bed, making sure you wash your hair the right way, drinking plenty of fluids, etc. For a full list, read our DOs and DONTs after a hair transplant. A week at home will allow for the tiny punctures from the transplanted follicles to scab over and fall off. Most patients prefer to wait this long before going back to work. But in terms of moderate activity, you don’t have to wait. We just ask that you refrain from very strenuous exercise for a week.

7. Is a hair transplant permanent?

Since we will use hair hair from an area of your scalp resistant to hair loss, the new hair growth will be as close to permanent as you can get. However, your hairline might recede farther back as you continue to lose hair in your balding areas. Your original hair transplant may not cover this area, so that you may need to follow up with another hair transplant. But this is something you can discuss during your consultation. Our hair specialist will be able to assess your hair loss pattern and determine how best to proceed to get the most out of hair restoration.

The bottom line is that a hair transplant is a wonderful and permanent solution for hair loss. Yes, it’s a big investment, but it is exactly that: A one-time investment with no need for repeat treatments. And much like a new car, it will give you joy for years to come. Also like a car, you’ll be able to use interest-free financing to pay it off over time.

They are easy on your body. They yield incredible results. You’ll wish you’d gotten one sooner. Those are all reasons why you should call the Hair Doctor to learn how a hair transplant can help you reverse your hair loss, permanently. Today, we’d like to talk about another reason: A hair transplant makes a good investment.

The Benefits of Investing in a Hair Transplant

Investments are always about weighing costs vs benefits. They’re never going to be cheap, or they wouldn’t be an investment. They’re about pooling together your savings to put down money for a future benefit. We save for a new car, for a vacation, or for our children’s college education.

A hair transplant falls into the same category. Nothing makes us happier than feeling good and confident about ourselves. Happiness is not so much about what happens in our lives, but about our own thoughts. And when we feel good about ourselves when we look into the mirror, those thoughts are good too. Investing in a  hair transplant can be that gift that keeps on giving. With a one-time investment in hair restoration surgery, you’ll feel good about yourself for years to come – long after the new car you might have bought instead has worn off in novelty.

with hair this good you won't care what car you drive

With hair like that, does he really care what kind of car he drives?

From having helped thousands of patients in the Nashville area regrow their own, natural hair, we can tell you that the benefits are real. The feedback we most often hear is this: “I can’t believe I waited this long to have a hair transplant.”

Is Hair Transplant Surgery Worth the Cost?

The question, as with each investment, is this: Is it worth the cost? As most investments go, a hair transplant won’t be cheap. The national average for a NeoGraft hair transplant can range anywhere from $7,000 to $14,000, depending on the number of grafts you will need. (Hint: It’ll be much cheaper at the Nashville Hair Doctor.) Sure, you can buy quite a few shampoos and supplements and other potions to stimulate hair growth before you get anywhere near the cost of a hair transplant. But you also won’t get anywhere near the kind of results a medical hair replacement can yield. If you want the kind of joy you get from long-term quality results, you’ve got to make the investment.

Even though hair transplants are a large investment, there can be significant variances in the cost of a hair transplant, depending on which provider you choose and which technology they use. At the Nashville Hair Doctor, we pride ourselves in offering among the most affordable hair transplants in the country. As you can see in the chart below, our NeoGraft hair transplants start as low as $3,950, and give us much as $6,100 in savings over the national average NeoGraft price.

The exact price of your hair transplant will depend on your individual circumstances. It’s as easy as 1-2-3 to get a quote from the Nashville Hair Doctor. How Much Time do I Need for a Hair Transplant?

It’s also important to know that money won’t be your only investment. The other is time. Hair simply takes time to grow, there is no way around that. If you want to restore a natural looking hairline, you’ll have to wait for it to grow in. But there’s also the downtime to consider, meaning how long it takes for your body to recover after hair transplant surgery.

At the Nashville Hair Doctor, we’ve listened to our patients. We know it’s important for you to quickly get back to your regular activities, whether it’s an office job, playing professional sports, or going on set for a TV show. That’s why we specialize in NeoGraft hair restoration, a technology originally created in Germany and first brought to Tennessee by one of our own Hair Doctor surgeons. With NeoGraft, your downtime is reduced to just a day or two. The procedure is so easy on your body that besides a little swelling, most patients are good to resume their activities within just a day or two. Yes, your hair will take its time to grow. But that’s no reasons for you to sit idle and do nothing. With NeoGraft, you won’t have any linear scar that needs to heal, and you won’t have to recover form the effects of anesthesia. You won’t have to dial back your activity or exercise. Some patients schedule their hair restoration procedure right before a break so that they can enjoy a nice vacation while their new hairline fills in.

We hope that we’ve given you a better idea about hair transplants as an investment in your future. If you’re still undecided, check out these other reasons for calling the Hair Doctor now:
